Outstanding original oversized 1967 on-site concert poster announces a " Buffalo's September Spectacular " starring R&B Motown legend Gladys Knight , aka The Empress of Soul, with The Pips, and co-headliners The Dells . Boxing-style format, featuring two-color offset printing on heavy cardboard, with great photos of each act, including unusual full-length images of Knight and Pips. This is likely the only surviving example of this very early poster featuring GK & The Pips, documenting their first major tour following her first Motown release and hit, Everybody Need Loves , only a few weeks earlier. The venue, Kleinhans Music Hall , is a National Landmark and considered one of the greatest concert halls ever built in the United States - a huge step up for the groups. The date is also significant, staged only a few weeks after extremely violent race riots in Buffalo and a month prior to a historic appearance by Martin Luther King where he delivered his pivotal speech, " The Future of Integration ." The show was originally cancelled but the city reached out to Motown and Knight and it remained scheduled. The Dells, of course, are a seminal soul group, and members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. They had just returned to Chess Records at the time of this concert, scoring their first R&B hit in years. It's offered in exceptionally EX/MT read more
