I believe this to be an original possibly late Georgian/ early Victorian portrait of a gentleman on ivory. The portrait appears to be done in watercolour and is in super detail. The ivory has a lovely patination with good colour and the portrait is in very good condition considering the age of the piece. This item was purchased at a reputable London auction house which stated that the piece is made from ivory and I have also done the pin test to further check it's originality, (please view pictures). This item is larger than a standard miniature portrait and the background has more of a scene with books and seascape. A really lovely piece in very good condition. please take note the frame is not original to the age of the miniature. This would appeal to collectors and is a fine example of the period. Approx Portrait Dimensions 3 1/4 inches x 4 1/4 inches
