STUDIO 11 is pleased to offer for sale the powerful and original figurative painting, "PORTRAIT IN BLUE", by Pacific Northwest artist, Denise C. Marts, 2007. All inquiries welcome. "Portrait in Blue" is a powerful example of the classical figurative painting of Denise C. Marts, an artist whose works in this genre are powerfully rooted in the influence of author and watercolorist, Henry Miller, and French painter, Georges Rouault. It is painted on newsprint, as many of the artist's works of this type are. These portraits are often, though not always, spin offs of larger paintings on canvas, in that they arise spontaneously as the artist is working on another subject. Newsprint is a favorite paper of the artist for these pieces as the yellowing, molted, wrinkled texture of newsprint, as it ages, adds to the mystery and depth of the portraits.
