Antique Kitchen Dropleaf Table Age Unknown, could be as early as 1660 I bought this dropleaf table at an antique store in Ottawa , Canada , in 1968 when I started architecture school. I do not know its history or age. It was already an antique at that time. The table has two dropleaves both of which work to expand the table. Both leaves are in great shape. I presume the wood is walnut and that it is an Ontario piece. The wood is too hard to be pine. The walnut age was between 1660-1730. The table top has a history of much use, with many marks and ink spills which just add to its charm. Neither the top nor the leaves are warped. The table top has a small split running lengthwise about 29" which varies in width from 1/16" to 1/8" wide. It does not interfere with it's use. The total length of the top is 3' 7 1/2". The dropleaves are each 12 1/4" deep and the height of the table is 2'5". The turned legs are 1'11" high. The legs are pegged into the table top for greater strength. The width of the table is 1' 8 1/2" with leaves closed. The top is 2'7" when the leaves are extended and 3' 7 1/4" when it is open all the way. The apron width (the part that holds the table top up) is 6 1/2". The legs are hand turned. Note of caution : Don't pull these tables, ,lift it instead. Otherwise t is undo pressure w the legs meet the table top. read more
