Please click on any thumbnail for a much closer look. Original Oil Painting signed Luke Fildes. "Twenty One" A profile portrait of a young lady. Painting on panel measures 12" x 14" Overall Frame dimensions are 18 x 20-1/4". This charming and detailed portrait shows a young blond woman in profile, with her hair in a bun and a checked, ruffle necked blouse. Signed at upper right, "Luke Fildes", the luminous painting was executed on compressed board. On the reverse of the painting is inscribed in pastel, "For Jean". The back surface of the board shows that the painting is quite old, with flaking, and a rusty color in areas. The painted side of the board is in fine condition, with no problems to report. It is attributed to Sir Luke Fildes (1843-1927) based on the signature, the style and age of the painting, and the attribution on the frame. The frame is a wood frame with gild molded plaster relief. The relief is in poor condition, with substantial areas of plaster loss as shown in photos. T is a price tag on the reverse of the frame from Macy's. Sir Samuel Luke Fildes was born in Liverpool, England in 1843. He was trained at south Kensington and at the Royal Academy. He was influenced by the Social Realist movement in England early in his career. He later co-founded the neo-venetian movement with Henry Woods. After Charles read more
