Welcome to an awsome threesome of relics that came out of an Arkansas estate. An original Confederate soldier's ID tag; as well as an original Confederate musket ball mold and powder-flask!!! I have had these from the descendants of the original owner since 1989. I used to collect Civil War items but am letting go of some of my antiques, from my various collections. This auction is for three items, all from the same man. Most precious to me is the original soldier's ID tag which is stamped; "J.T. Jones --- Gravette, Ark." That is stamped one side of it - the other side of the ID tag is plain, although the outlines of the lettering from the other side is somewhat visible. It is simply made from stamped sheet-brass. Its measurements are apx. 3 1/2 inches x 1 3/4 inches. It has a very pleasant, warm patina with a few small age spots. This Mr. J. T. Jones in particular served as a private in the Confederate army; in the "15th Johnson's Arkansas Infantry." I will mention more about the regiment later. Then t is his single-ball musket mold that is stamped as follows; "CS" appears near the actual ball-molding end of the piece..."48" and "300" are also stamped at different places on it... Thirdly t is his brass powder-flask. One side was purposely darkened by him evidently to try keep it from reflecting in sunlight. A form of simple camaflouge. read more
