This no reserveauction is for an original Lionel empty box for a 6462-25 Gondola Car. This is the new shorter Middle Classic box made without coupler protection flaps that were no longer necessary when Lionel eliminated the corner steps on the gondola, thus allowing the couplers to be inverted and stored beneath the car inside the box. It is square and strong with a wrinkle on one side. All end flaps, tuck flaps and interior flaps are present with some tape repair where the end flaps meet the tuck flaps. I believe this box would be correct as a component of the 1517W Texas Special and 2219W Lackawanna FM cataloged freight sets in 1954 and 1535W (or 509) Santa Fe F3 AB unit freight set in 1955.
