This auction is for the genuine US military surplus bayonet and scabbard with leg tie shown in the pictures to fit the M1 Garand M1C and M1D service rifles in .30 caliber. Bayonet is marked US M5A1 and MILPAR COL on the crossguard indicating manufacture by contractor Columbus Milpar and Manufacturing Company, Columbus Ohio and the scabbard is marked US M8A1 and PWH on the throat indicating manufacture by contractor Workhouse for the Blind, Philadelphia Pennsylvania. This bayonet was ordered by the US Dept of Defense to supply the Military Assistance Program (MAPS) for foreign sale to governments using the M1 Garand rifle and later returned to US stocks and released for sale by the US government.
