Guaranteed ProvenanceLast One......D on't Miss This One...!!!The 4925th Test Group (Atomic), famously known as the "Megaton Blasters", was stationed at Kirtland AFB near Albuquerque, New Mexico and was responsible for the engineering of, construction and testing of nuclear weapons delivery systems as well as executing some actual aerial nuclear weapons delivery utilizing those systems for USAF aircraft from the late 1940s through 1961 when the unit was inactivated and its responsibilities transferred to other units. Their stable of aircraft included the B-29, B-50D, B-45, the B-36H and then on into the Jet Age, a couple of B-52s, B-47s as well as numerous different jet fighter and fighter-bomber types, including a number of Navy types, that were flown by what the the Air Force called the best pilots in the world. The 4925th dropped "live" weapons in tests at the Nevada Test Site as well as many of the tests in the Pacific all throughout the 1950s which was the 4925th's "heyday" so-to-speak.This rare piece is from the estate of a former member of the 4925th who also flew B-24s in WWII with the 458th BG. He retired from the Air Force in 1971. I will provide the winner with this veteran's name and links to some of his information. (Please check the close up photos carefully!).This is the last patch I have for sale from his estate. I am keeping two examples for my own collection. I have his mess dress uniform and one of his USAF Class A blue uniforms as well as two of his visor hats for sale in other listings.The patch is large and measures 3-3/4" wide by 3-7/8" high and is Schiffli embroidered (see the photos).Condition Note : Patch is in Very Fine+ condition with some remaining threads from being sewn on a flight suit. This patch does not glow under ultra-violet light (last 2 photos). This patch is NOT one of the many dubiously sourced repros that circulate around eBay.This patch is not a recent reproduction and is absolutely original to the period. This is NOT some passed around patch - it comes from the estate of an original member of the Megaton Blasters. His photos are found in the historical book, The Megaton Blasters by Major Hardison.
