This original beret from the Rhodesian Light Infantry (RLI) came from a known soldier who served with the Rhodesian Light Infantry during the bush war and who continues to work in Zimbabwe with wildlife. The pictures tell you the condition of the beret, the plastic lining is missing as would be expected and the beret has seen some wear during Rhodesian war days. Despite some discussion as to the correct badge, this badge is facing the correct way and is not a collar badge on a beret. I have included a picture from Owens book on Southern African badges. This brief description is taken from the Wikipedia article on the RLI (Rhodesian Light Infantry): "The 1st Battalion, Rhodesian Light Infantry (1RLI), commonly The Rhodesian Light Infantry (RLI), was a regiment formed in 1961 at Brady Barracks (Bulawayo, Southern Rhodesia) as a light infantry unit within the army of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. Barely a year after its creation, it was relocated to Cranborne Barracks (Salisbury) where its headquarters remained for the rest of its existence.
