These are two antique maps/plans , one dated 1793. They show the existing land and owners status of the ground that was to be flooded to make Hollingworth Lake in Lancashire. Hollingworth Lake is near Rochdale. They have been in one family of local historians for many many years (possibly since 1800's)Laid out on the plan and hand coloured, are the lands and fields and the status of the families that owned the land that would disappear under the water. We are fully of the belief that this plan was originally drawn in 1793. Measurements are shown in chains. They have been kept in a carboard tube and brown paper for years and years are in good condition. However there is a tear at the left of this document (see photo) which has been repaired by tape at the back of the map. There is no tape on the front.Would look superb in a frame. Measures 30inches x 19.5 inches --------------------------------------------The second plan is a simple plan of the now flooded land that became Hollingworth Lake ( known as (Weavers seaport)We do not know when this was drawn..It may have been at the same time but it is not dated. It shows very few buildings around Hollingworth lake, unlike the present day, so it may well have been drawn once it had been flooded.Measures 20.5 inches x 15.5 inchesWe will send these in a substantial postage tube for good protection. read more
