Following a visit to a Modigiliani exhibition in Dublin, the artist was inspired to create a small series of paintings. This one measures 26 x 22 cms Background Information We inherited in 1986 a very largecollection of original watercolours, pastels and oils by an Irish artist (our uncle) who was painting in Dublin from about 1930-1985. We will send a biography to the purchaser including the name of the artist; he was a quiet, shy and private man who never exhibited his work. As we have so many pieces, we are hoping to share his art with others who may appreciate and enjoy his talent. The artist was born and grew up in Dublin; attending Belvedere and Clongowes College a few years after James Joyce. It could be argued that much of his work is strongly influenced by the Modernist movement and other artistic movements of the time. As a young man, he worked in London and studied at the Slade School of Art. His work is rich and varied: including Irish landscapes and abstract pieces. The landscapes were painted primarily in Clare, Kerry, Mayo, Connemara and Donegal but some were closer to Dublin. He also painted many abstracts: some are clearly inspired by mythology and, in particular, Gaelic mythology whilst others have a strong literary and / or religious symbolism.
