Original World War I 1917 Doughboy Helmet. Guaranteed all original. The insignia of the 27th Infantry Division, the NY monogram surrounded by the 7 stars of the constellation Orion, is painted on the front. The exterior of the helmet shell has no dents and almost all of its original dark olive drab textured paint. The black oil cloth and leather liner is present,. The wool felt pad is undamaged and remains in place in the crown. The chin strap is broken. The 27th, a New York National Guard division, was attached to the British as part of the Second Corps. It fought in Belgium and sustained 1,785 battle deaths and 7,201 wounded. Please see my other auctions for more original military items from my 55+ year personal collection.
