Up for auction is arare Original US WWII Army USMC First Model High Top Canvas Jungle Boots dated 1942. Prior to WWII the US had engaged in a number of campaigns in jungle terrain. But no special equipment had been developed. Before this point soldiers in constant water, heat, mud, and insects developed fungal and bacterial infections which brought demand for a specialty boot. What they needed were lightweight durable quick dry protective boots from jungle hazards including mildew. This pair on auction is the very first model they designed . These are made of light colour OD body and khaki trim canvas with rubber soles this pair was standardized on August 31 1942. These boots were to be sent to the South Pacific For the Army USMC troops. The duck canvas top with an attached tongue kept out mud and insects. The corrugated rubber soles provided good grip and traction. They would dry fast and are easy to clean. The main problem is that this boot did not offer support and the troops complained of aching arches in the feet. This pair for sale are great early war example of jungle boots. They are 12 inches in height, Light colour OD duck canvas material. Rear seam and upper edges are khaki coloured trim.
