Just in time for the Grove Park Inn show... Up for auction is this magnificent Grueby Galleon Ship fireplace tile attributed to Addison Le Boutillier done in cuenca with a matte green ground. This tile has a wonderful "alligatored" glaze throughout, and is one of the better tiles you can find, if you can find one ...This one can be yours for the right bid...Don't let it slip away! This authentic Grueby tile measures 6 & 1/8" tall, 6" wide and 7/8" thick. As you can see from the sides and back, this was removed from a fireplace frieze of which I can only imagine. T may have been an artist's mark, but it could have disappeared on the back surface that was shaved down a bit upon removal. Nevertheless, this is quintessential Grueby through and through. Even unsigned, this tile just has the Grueby look, but I guarantee it to be Grueby nonetheless of your money back! As you can see from the photos, this tile is in EXCELLENT condition. Other than some minor surface wear and one very small corner fleck, t are no chips, cracks, hairlines, repairs and/or retouches on this tile - guaranteed. It's about as good as one can get from a fireplace frieze, so go out and get it. You WILL NOT be disappointed...
