Genuine1978 Ovation Viper, I have owned this for over 20 years. Serial number E 8964 solid body 24 fret in cream which I have been told is the preferred colour as they only made it in natural wood, black & cream. There are some chips, dings here and there and paint wear on the rear of the neck as you would expect from a 40 year old guitar but nothing to lower its standard of playability and sound which is close to a that of a strat of similar age (strangely the rear of body is fine). The neck is fine and the action is very low. There is little fret wear with no nasty buzzes from the nut to the 24 th fret. Twin octave which is rare for an instrument of that age. There is play on the pots which I was going to have replaced but was advised by a specialist not to change them as it is not used professionally and would only take value off the guitar. There is a sticker on the rear next to the machine heads from Andy’s in Denmark St London so at some stage of its life it passed through his shop. I spoke to them about 10 years ago but they were unable to tell me much only that they can only remember having had 2 or 3 in the shop ever. I am not sure if the sound & tone knobs are the genuine ones. It plays fine and sounds great.
