1 oz A-Mark Silver Round. .999 Pure silver! The Liberty Bell has an intriguing and amusing story. It was commissioned from a London firm in 1752, and was cast with the words of Leviticus 25:10, “Proclaim LIBERTY throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof.” It cracked with its first ring after arrival in Philadelphia, and was recast twice by local workmen John Pass and John Stow.The bell was broken, melted, and cast into a new bell. Pass and Stow augmented the metal with copper by 10%. The second bell was ready in March 1753.City officials arranged a public celebration with free food and drink for the first ringing of the recast bell. Though the new bell did not break when it was struck, it sounded like two coal scuttles being banged together, according to records of the account. Mocked by the crowd, Pass and Stow quickly took the bell away and recast it again. The third bell was finished in June 1753, and the sound was deemed satisfactory.Although there are rumored accounts of the Liberty Bell being struck July 4, 1776 after the Second Continental Congress’s vote for independence, there was no formal announcement of the vote.
