Hi. Up for viewing is 1 LIFE-LIKE PROTO 2000: Item # 23006 EMD GP-7 Phase 1 dynamic brakes Blue box issue MEC (Maine Central) green/gold Pine Tree scheme #'d 566 There were engines produced during the Proto2000 Blue Box era that suffer from cracked axle syndrome. Many of the earlier runs were afflicted with this malady worse than later releases. The less expensive axle part replacement of choice is Athearn part 60024 and it is a conversion task that is relatively easy to perform. However, what I have found is this isn't the solution for all Proto blue box releases as I have had limited success doing this. This particular engine produces a light audible clunking sound when operating either forward or reverse. I have not attempted changeout with Athearn axle replacement. Since I'm not an expert modeler and just don't wish to expend more time on a project for a never, ever to be built layout I've decided to offer this unit at a reasonable cost given its condition. If anyone knowledgeable wishes to take up the challenge giving this well-detailed model an opportunity to run better this will be an excellent chance. This engine is from my model rail collection and it has never seen formal operation other than trial run only at time of purchase when loco was first released and recently before posting this ad.
