51D MUSTANG – Chuck Yeager's “Glamorous Glen I DESK TOP MODEL 1/32 scale and has a 17"wingspan complete with stand This auction is for a very nice condition P-51 MUSTANG. the wood model is free of cracks and chips except for a small mark/dent on flap on port wing as show on last two photos This desk top model represents the North American P-51D-20-NA Mustang flown by Captain Charles E (Chuck) Yeager, with the 363rd Fighter Squadron of the 357th Fighter Group, “The Yoxford Boys”, Leiston Field, England. Captain Yeager was an Ace, in a Fighter Group that held the record for most Aces and the most air-to-air victories in the 8th Air Force, at 609. Captain Yeager was shot down on his eighth mission and escaped through Spain with the help of the French Resistance. He returned to combat and amassed a total of twelve and a half victories. After the war, he became a test pilot and was the first man to fly faster than the speed of sound on October 24th, 1947, in the Bell X-1 "Glamorous Glennis". Built by North American beginning in 1942, the Mustang was the first effective long range fighter escort, and made it possible for Allied bombers to reach Berlin.One of the best and most beautiful fighter aircraft ever designed, the P-51 had a wing span of 37 feet and a length of 32 feet, 2 inches.
