This is a antique pre-linen postcard, captioned "Interior Opera House After the Fire, January 13th, 1908, Boyertown, PA." In the lower right corner it says Pub. by J. O'Donnell Estate. On the back (and some on the front) is a handwritten account of the fire, which reads "This is an interior view of the Boyertown Opera House which burned down on Jan. 13 in which 179 people were burned to death. Some of them were burned so bad they could not be recognized at all. Boyertown is a small town seven miles from Quite a number of my friends met their death t W that mark is over that heap is a pile of dead bodies. The one on top is said to be that of a woman. T are 170 bodies lying in these ruins somew". It is signed Wm. Updegrove. The card is in good condition with lightly bumped corners. The card is postally unused, but has writing on the back.
