Pau Casals i Defillo [1876 1973] known during his professional career as Pablo Casals was a Catalan cellists and conductor. He is generally regarded as the pre-eminent cellist of the first half of the 20th century and one of the greatest cellists of all time. He made many recordings throughout his career but is perhaps best remembered for his recordings of the Bach Cello Suites he made between 1936 and 1939. Listed for auction is the autograph of famed cellist Pablo Casals. The autograph is signed ''Pablo Casala'' in black fountain pen on a heavy-weight card. The card has been dated ''1965'' but it is partially obstructed by what was most likely a faulty fountain pen. The card measures 3.00 x 4.25 inches and is in fine condition and is affixed with a commomerative Beethooven postage stamp. The autograph will also be accompained with the original transmittal envelope which has his name imprinted on the verso and is affixed with two U.S postage stamps and is postmarked San Juan, May 6, 1965. The autograph is authentic, uncommon to obtain and is a nice example of this esteemed cellist and composer. We have also listed the autographs of Arthur Rubinstein and Yehudi Menuhin.
