Pablo Picasso was commissioned to create a series of 100 etchings and lithographs, during the years of 1930-1939, by his friend and Art Critic, Ambroise Vollard. This series is known as The Vollard Series. It was printed in the 1950's by Petiet, a known lithographer, in Paris. The print is on laid paper, with a signature in pencil in the lower right hand corner, beneath the plate line. It is known that Picasso hand signed 260 of these prints , sporatically, during the years leading up to his death in 1969.The Vollard Series is considered one of his most influential series on Modern Art. It was most recenly shown at The British Museum, in London, where all 100 prints were represented. In this series he introduces his alter ego, the Minatour, as well as the themes of Artist and Model, and his new love interest, Marie' There'se. This print can be found in any catalog of the vollard sereies, including Ledor's "A Guide to Collecting Picasso's Prints". This is also backed up by an authentication from Quw-Art appraisals aand Suppliers of Fine Art, Manchester, England.I am including the Certificate of Authenticity with this print, that I received when I purchaed it in 1999. To the best of my knowlege this is an authentic Vollard Series print, printed in Paris in the 1950's, and hand signed in pencil, by Pablo Picasso, in the lower right.
