Painted Primitive Folk Art Fish Market Wooden Advertising Sign Early 19thc NR Thirty Years of Quality Collecting Condition: Good Circa: Early 19thc. Provenance: Cape Cod, Mass. Dimensions: 18 3/4" L x 6" W x 3/4"D Weight: 1 lb. Avaiable for your acquisition is this very early advertising sign, It has a primitive style Striped Bass painted on what appears to be pine driftwood. The background paint is some kind of early (possibly marine) flat paint and the fish is done in a higher gloss paint. The tin hanger at the top is original and was painted black. The condition of this sign is good considering it's use and history. It has a portion missing under the head which may have been where a knot was. It has other small missing portions and the entire sign is full of distressing. Much of the damage is old and is a result of it's age in combination with the soft charactoristics of the wood. It has no cracks or repairs. Please examine the photos closely and ask questions prior to bidding in order to ensure your satisfaction. This piece is being sold strictly "AS IS." because it is a primitive piece and it is not unusual to have imperfections.
