Thomas L. Lewis oil (?) on board painting of Taos, N.M. landscape: trees, mountain, clouds, water. 6 5/8" X 5 5/8". Signed lower left Thos. L. Lewis (over) Taos. Framed. Brass plaque (affixed long before he died). Born: Bay City, Texas. He started painting professionally around age 19 and became known for painting scenes of the American South including swamps, cypress and beech trees, and African Americans toiling in the fields. He later painted the landscapes of the Southwest and owned a a gallery in Taos. From the estate of a New York collector of land and seascapes (among other things).
