PAIR OF ANTIQUE BRASS GRADUATED 3 SLEIGH BELLS ON SHAFT These bells have a beautiful sound!! The bells would attach to the shaft or pole of asled or wagon. Each of the bells should have three small clappers inside. They are in good condition, showing normal age related wear. They need a good cleaning and polishing. I have not cleaned them in anyway, leaving them original. The bar has some rust and one bar is a little bent towards the end. *Bells were considered to be good luck, but they were also used to warn other drivers and people walking along the narrow roads as well. It can be difficult to stop sleighs, and there were laws in many places that required that sleigh bells were used on sleighs. You can actually find a few places in Canada that still have these laws on their books.* The bars measure approximately 10 3/4" long and the bells are approximately- Large 2 5/8" diameter, Medium 2 1/2" diameter and Small 2 1/4" diameter.
