W DAVENPORT & CO STONE CHINA "FLYING BIRD or ASIATIC PHEASANT" PAIR OF DINNER PLATE S 9 3/4" 1805 - 1820 This Lovely Pair of Dinner Plates comes from W Davenport & Co's Works in Longport, Staffordshire. The Plates features a Very Lovely Multicoloured Pattern with a Central Study of an Oriental Tree with Flowers with a Bird Landing in the Tree and About to Catch a Small Flying Insect. The Plates have a White Background with a Scalloped Outer Rim which was Originally Yellow - but the colour is mostly Worn Away. The Bird's Feathers, together with some detail on a Flower have Gilded Outlines. The same pattern was used in later Mason's and Ashworth Plates. The Plate measures 9 3/4" in Diameter. The Printed Backstamp has "DAVENPORT " in Curved Banner over "STONE CHINA" with an Anchor in between. I believe that the Stone China Mark was introduced in 1805 and was in use up to 1820. The Plates are in Exceptionally Good Condition. There are N o Chips or Cracks. There are Light Surface Marks, and Crazing which seems to be restricted to the Underside of the Plates. All of my pottery is well packed before posting. I have many other items for sale and will be Happy to Combine Postage and Packing on Multiple Purchases. I am particularly Grateful to Charles Duckworth for helping me to Date this Plate.
