A pair of rare Barr Flight & Barr candlesticks C1810. This pair of candlesticks are superbly hand painted with flowers, the style of which is highly suggestive of Samuel Astles' work. They are moulded with acanthus leaves and applied pearl beading to the sconce and base. The candlesticks are unmarked. However, I have another almost identical pair which are impressed with the BFB factory mark (See Photos 3 & 4). They are unmistakably of Barr, Flight & Barr origin due to the unmistakable shape, high quality of the decoration and distinctive tone of the gilding. (NB, This auction is only for one pair of candlesticks, the pair with pearl beading to base) The candlesticks have been broken and restuck at either end of the main stem. One candlestick has 2 chips to the rim, one of which has been filled. The other candlestick is free from any chips. There is minor wear to the gilding, in keeping with the age of these items. The repairs have been done sympathetically and do not detract from the quality of the items. I have included several detailed photographs for further information. They measure 12cm in height, and are 8cm in diameter at the widest point of the base.
