SET OF TWO THONET FRERES: CHAIR No. 2 park yours on one small part of whirl and curl history background Thonet No. 2 chair with arms (c. 1865) was manufactured using a procedure invented in 1841 by Michael Thonet, who designed the final prototype for the Daum cafe in Vienna in 1849, featuring a back rest and back legs made from a single piece, a rounded cane or laminated seat and added front legs. Thonet later organized mass production of the different components which were combined to make several different models, i.e. the singular difference being the design of the ornamentation to the backrest).
