Up for auction is a pair of handforged brass or bronze Conquistador boot stirrups collected long ago from the country of Columbia. The elderly collector I received these from had said these date sometime between circa 1600 - 1800; as this style was used in Colonial South America for a long time. I received these among other relics from him - back around the early 1980s. I was only 10-12 years old at the time and he had been impressed with my young enthusiasm for history. One stirrup is missing its metal strap - loop on top. They are relatively plain examples but indeed genuine and a great pair for display. They also each have a small hole in the bottom that he had claimed to me, was for them to release water when riding in certain conditions. Whether that is the truth I do not know - but the handful of others I have seen indeed all have these small "water-holes" in the sole of the stirrup...They measure a little over 10 inches long. The one with its stirrup-strap holder on topn is almost 5 inches tall and of course the one without its strap - holder is a little shorter. Good luck bidders!!!
