You are bidding on an unused example of Bahawalpur SG 4, the 1-anna carmine with black overprint issue of 1947. This stamp has been previously hinged, with hinge remnant adhering. The 2015 Stanley Gibbons Catalogue value of this item is £42 --roughly $63 at current exchange rates. These overprinted stamps of British India were issued in the interim period between 15 August 1947 and 3 October 1947, following implementation of the Indian Independence Act and prior to the state's accession to Pakistan. During this time, Bahawalpur State was effectively independent as it was neither part of the Dominion of India nor the Dominion of Pakistan. The Emir of Bahawalpur acceeded to the Dominion of Pakistan on 3 October 1947 and these overprinted issues were then withdrawn. Only 480 examples of this stamp were originally issued.
