This is a listing for a VINTAGE 1955 PARKER "51" SPECIAL FOUNTAIN PEN.DESCRIPTION:Model: Parker "51" SPECIAL. Aerometric Filling.Size: Length of pen with cap on is 138mm, 5 7/16 inches ( 5 7/16" ).Style or Design: Solid dark blue barrel. Color: Parker's Midnight Blue which is dark blue.Type: Aerometric filling system.Barrel: Dark blue barrel. Most of the barrel marking have rubbed off during the many years of use. What is left of the hallmark imprint is, " MADE IN U.S.A. " and " 51 " in very small numerals. This imprint is up towards the body clutch ring. This imprint was two lines from 1942 forward. The barrel and tip are 126mm, 5 inches ( 5" ) in length.Clip: Shiney chrome steel with the Parker Arrow clips. Clip is 38mm, 1.5 inches ( 1 1/2" ) in length.Cap: Shiney chrome steel. Below the Parker Arrow clip is the hallmark - engraving, " PARKER ". On the reverse side is the hallmark - engraving, " MADE IN U.S.A." . Has a black jeweled cap or cap screw. In 1954 the engraving Made In USA was added to the back of the cap. Cap is 63mm, 2 3/8 inches ( 2 3/8" ) in length. See pictures for details.Nib: Hooded Nib. Octanium (eight metal alloy) nib. View pictures for details.Filler System: The aeromatic fillling system. Metal casing, or sleeve, around the pli-glass sac and a metal bar that is curved like an "U" around the sac leaving it open. The metal casing is hallmarked - imprinted, " PARKER '51' ", " SPECIAL ", " TO FILL PRESS RIBBED BAR FOUR TIMES, WIPE FRONT END, PEN POINT DOWN, WITH SOFT TISSUE. ", " USE DRY WRITING SUPERCHROME INK. ", " THE PARKER PEN CO. " and " MADE IN U.S.A. ". The resevoir sac is flexible and functions. I have not tested it with ink, nor do I guarantee it to hold ink. In 1956 the ink Superchrome engraving on the metal filler sleeve with filling instructions was replaced with Parker ink . See pictures for details.Year - Timeperiod: Circa 1950's. This Parker "51" SPECIAL was made between 1954 and 1956. This is based on the following information: In 1954 the engraving Made In USA was added to the back of the cap. In 1956 the ink Superchrome engraving on the metal filler sleeve with filling instructions was replaced with Parker ink . Therefore the cap and filling system engraving dates the pen 1954-1956.Condtion: Good condition but with most vintage pens it has minor scuffs marks. No breaks, no chip and no cracks.
