XXXX Rare Original Patch of the Vietnam War. Dac Cong - Provincial Recon Unit - Mercenary Special Forces. Airborne, Elite. An amazingly rare patch of the Dac Cong, Airborne Special Forces, Elite Mercenary Provincial Reconnaissance Unit. The Dac Cong was originally formed during the French Indochine War and was a Viet Minh Special forces unit made up of ex French-Colonial Airborne and Reconniassance Units (Vietnamese, Laotians and Cambodians) who had defected to the Viet Minh Military. Exclusively Mercenaries they were in practice a private army who continued their training throughout the french Indochine war and later into the Vietnam War. DAC CONG or DAK CONG was used as the name of the Viet Cong Special Forces throughout the Vietnam War however the original Dac Cong, in the early 1960's under the persuasion and advice of CIA Operatives migrated to the allied side fighting against the Viet Cong. From 1965 onwards they came under loose command of the US 5th Special Forces and MACV-SOG. They operated almost exclusively in the area of Quang Tri Province and Thua Thien Province in the vicinity of the DMZ as well as Special Operations into North Vietnam. The
