Here is a very hard to find studio pottery covered bowl that was a collaborate work by Patti Warashin & Fred Bauer. This piece was executed in the early 1960's when the couple was married for a shot time. Patti would later move on to marry famed Seattle potter and professor, Robert Sperry. Both were early Archie Bray artists when it was under the direction of Ken Ferguson from 1958-1964. This larger bowl measures 10 1/2" at its widest and stands 5 1/2" off the ground. It is in excellent, original condition with a couple very slight slice chips off the rim off the cover (see picture). These may very well be kiln chips from when it was taken off the rack after firing since they are very thin and close to the rim. The piece is covered in a dark green speckled glaze with a wax resist abstract design of grasses on the cover. It has a nice squat form with early twisted applied handles that Warashina executed. You can see a similar example in the recent book on her work. It is clearly impressed with the "BAUER" stamp and Patti's wing design cipher that she used for only a short time. This is a very hard to find work and worthy of any museum collection. Pictures should tell the story. Buyer pays $40.00 for shipping within the US. Thank you.
