This is a beautiful old US saber or sword called a Patton sword usually. It is a cavalry type sword and I'm told it's a model 1913 although the date on the blade says 1918. It is a US military sword and has the initials L. F. & Co. which I believe is the manufacturer and that's a company called Lander Ferry and Clark. On the side with the date 1918 and what looks like the logo of the company. On the other side it says U.S. with a little logo below the US mark. It has a shield to protect you hand and a handle that has a thumb rest on it indented in the handle itself. The handle is gnarled and it looks like it was created that way to make the grip easier. T are screws using a straight screw driver to take them off. I haven't taken them off and I don't believe they have been taken off. It is all original - guaranteed - not a reproduction. Everything is exceptionally nice on this saber. No pitting, just some surface discoloration, but the edges of the blade are in perfect condition with no gouges or any chips or anything like that. Measures a little over 42" the best I can tell. Blade itself looks like about 35 ¼" long. Very desirable and sought after sword. It is tight and it has been well cared for.
