A vintage dual purpose copper bain marie double boiler with a lid and a heavy pottery insert. Approx 7" diameter without handles. The lid fits the bottom pot so you can cook with it when there's no need for a double boiler.There are no chips, cracks or repairs to the Iiner. The bottom of the double boiler has two (2) heavy duty brass handles (one helper's handle for ease in pouring ), both handles are held in place with substantial brass rivets. The top section (the pottery) has a removable copper ring held in place with one brass screw which allows it to easily be removed for clean-up.This section also has a heavy brass handle only this one is held in place with copper rivets. The lid is copper with a round brass knob. The stonewear insert holds 1 1/2 qts ( 6 cups) of liquid and the pot / kettle below will holds 2 qts.when used without the insert.The piece is of unknown origin since I was unable to find any identifying marks anywhere. There is some light wear on the brass surfaces. Most notably on the lid is a haziness that may easily be removed with polish but I don't know as I haven't tried and am certainly no copper expert. There are no chips, cracks or repairs to the insert. GREAT for melting chocolate and a wonderful addition to any kitchen with copper cookware !! Please see my other items for sale.
