This is eight (8) 2-3" pieces of coquina stone specimen samples found on the grounds of the Mission. They weighs 8.35 ounces total. Coquina is a naturally occurring formation of mollusk shells imbedded in a sand matrix which, over time, has become hardened. Coquina has been used as a building material in Florida for 400 years. Here is your chance to own an ancient piece of history! This particular specimen is Anastasia Formation material from Anastasia Island on the other side of the Bridge of Lions just past the Castillo. The CASTILLO is the largest building in St. Augustine, FL constructed of this same shell and sand material. They measures between 3" wide and 2" tall at their highest points. This is a extremely soft material and a very delicate piece. It will be shipped using extra special care to preserve the integrity of the specimen.
