Pearly Boys and Girls, with their costumes decorated with buttons, evolved in the 1880s from the traditional cockney coster kings. The first Pearly King was Henry Croft who died in 1930 having collected a large sum for charity during his lifetime, the prime purpose of the Pearly tradition. This Royal Doulton figurine is made of fine bone china. The figurine is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. White spots in photos are due to reflection off the glaze.Be sure to check out my other auctions for additional Royal Doulton figurines up for auction this week.
