Very Rare Pennsylvania Globe Blowtorch with Vertical Engine-Heating Burner – This quart-size, gasoline-fueled blowtorch has all of the characteristics of the 1889 William P. Butler Patent No. 415,613. Unmarked torches with these features are referred to as “Butler Patented Blowtorches”. The torch listed here is a very rare example having a vertically-oriented bronze burner with a brass label soldered on the front of the tank reading “PENNSYLVANIA GLOBE COMPANY” and “GLOBE TORCH” and “PHILADELPHIA”. I do not believe that this company manufactured the torch, yet I do not know who its manufacturer may have been. The tank is made of sheet brass with a soldered overlapping seam at the rear of the tank. The top of the torch is heavy cast brass soldered to the tank. The bottom brass skirt is also soldered to the tank. The tank is about 4 1/4 inches in diameter and almost 6 inches in height. The overall height of the torch is 14 1/2 inches. This torch is in excellent condition as can be seen in the accompanying photographs. The tank has a number of shallow dimples consistent with its age. The control handle, pump assembly, and wing-type shutoff knobs are all free and moveable.
