This is a GAR ribbon and picture badge. At the top of the piece is a 1 15/16in. long ornate bar that holds the ribbon. The red, white, and bvlue silk ribbon is approx. 2in. long by 1 11/16in. wide at the top. In gold letters it says :"Pennsylvanias Escort To The 10th Regiment P.V." (Pennsylvania Volunteers)The ribbon is a bit soiled, but the letters are all ledgible. There are no tears or rips on the ribbon. Attached to the ribbon is an 1 5/8in. ornate metal shell, and within that shell is a cream and brown celluloid disc. The disc picture the "Gallant Colonel" and underneath his picture it reads:"10th Regiment P.V." This is the same gentlemen who is pictured on a similar piece I listed yesterday. In researching the item, I was not able to determine the Colonel's name. I obtained the item in a group of political buttons and ribbons (which is my main collecting interest) in Rochester, Pa., Beaver County, which is in Western, Pa., close to the Ohio border. All of the political pieces were from the 1880-1910 time frame, and from the general Beaver County area, so I presume this piece is also from that area and time frame. The celluloid on the metal disc is in nice condition with no cuts and minor surface wear. The image is sharp and well centered. However, the celluloid is lifting up from the metal disc primarily at the top, and you can read more
