Philadelphia, PA Centennial tokens of 1876Merchant - John E. Vallee Locksmith & Bell Hanger Reverse - Maryland Coat of Arms Composition - White Medal ANOTHER GREAT ITEM FOR SALE! Won't see many of these. This is a beautiful trade token which is listed in Ralau's Token book of United States Trade Tokens 1700 -1900. These tokens were made by the Lingg & Co. of Philadelphia PA. This is Pa.Ph# 790 Obverse: "John E. Vallee Locksmith & Bellhanger 1934 Germantown Ave. Phila." Reverse: Maryland coat of Arms I would grade this token as Obverse Choic Uncirculated. Reverse As close to Gem Unc as you will see. You will be the judgein the grading of this piece. Composition is White medal. Size is 23mm. These tokens were issued by various merchants for the 1876 Centennial Celebration held in Phladelphia, PA. Mintage records unknown but probably less then 100 pieces for each type of metal compostion. Undervalued in the Rulau's Book. This is the John E Valley Type I of the Two varieties. There are eleven different dies of this type listed in Rulau's book. I have 4 different. These medals would be worth considerably more if they were professionally slabbed. My collection has 329 different PA 1876 Centennial Merchant pieces and decided to pass them on to a next generation of token collectors. It has taken over 25+ years to assemble and upgrade this read more
