Photo Midget Mine of Cripple Creek Colorado (Gold King Mine) Wonderful small photo of the Midget Mine in Cripple Creek Colorado. The Midget Gold Mining & Milling Co. was incorporated during 1896 and was adjacent to the Moon Anchor properties, but it was below them, located on Gold Hill. This was just three-quarters of a mile to the south and east of the courthouse in Cripple Creek. The Midget Mine had a shaft depth of 800 feet. The Anchoria-Leland Mine was a close neighbor. This postcard-sized photo is in good condition and mounted on light brown card stock. The card has a severe concave curve which prevents it from lying flat (see photo). The photo is crystal clear and shows a lot of detail. Take a look at the eight miners by the building on the right-hand side of the photo or the broken window panes above them. The photo shows another mine in the background which looks like the Gold King Mine but could be the Anchoria-Leland Mine, I don’t know which. The photo is not marked as to the photographer but could be A.J. Harlan since my dad had a number of his photos which he loaned for use in the book: Florence & Cripple Creek Railroad by Allan C. Lewis; published by Sundance Books; ISBN # 0-913582-72-7. The photo is not damaged and has no creases or pinholes. The card has some stains at the bottom center and the back has lots of writing. read more
