Two Vintage Photos which were made in Italy. One is of the "Liberty Ship S/S Nathaniel Bacon with the Bow blown off by two mines. Civitavecchia, Italy, March 10, 1946" as stated(typed) on the back. The other is "Shipyards -- Salerno, Italy, March 11, 1946" as stated (typed) on the back. Liberty Ships were a class of cargo ships built during World War II. They were old fashioned, utilitarian vessels that could be built in a hurry. They got the name Liberty Ships because the first one was named the S.S. PATRICK HENRY. From what I can find out on the internet, the SS Nathaniel Bacon was hit by mines in December of 1945 and declared a total loss. Two crew members were killed as a result. The photo of the ship has a lighter streak through the picture on the left hand side ( you can see it in my photo) which I do not know if it is a developing error or some sort of damage to the picture. The only problem the pictures really have is they both are somewhat curled up. They measure approximately 3 3/4" tall and 4 5/8" wide (one is 4 3/8" wide). Please ask any questions before bidding. Thanks
