Pricing & History
Pierre Auguste Renoir etching titled `Baigneuse debout, a mijambes`. The print has very nice margins and very evident plate markings on the piece. The print comes with a certificate of authenticity from Hamrell Galleries in California. Auguste Renoir was a French impressionist painter noted for his radiant, intimate portraits. Renoir is also noted for the harmony of his lines and the brilliant charm of his wide variety of subjects. Unlike other impressionist artists, he was interested in depicting the single human figure. Renoir was born in Limoges on February 25, 1841. His portraits of the female form reveal his extraordinary ability to depict the lustrous, pearly color and texture of skin and to impart lyrical feeling and plasticity to a subject. His work has remained unsurpassed in the history of modern painting in their representation of the grace of the feminine form. Renoir died at Cagnes, a village in the south of France on December 3, 1919. His work can be seen in almost every major museum around the world including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, The Louvre in Paris, France and the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. This piece is listed in the `Graphic Works of 19th and 20th Century Artists` in this case Pissaro, Sisley and Renoir. Volume VI, XVII plate 28. Circa - 1910.
