! Pietersite - China : Pietersite rough 5/5 01 - Excellent old stock Red Gold super Chatoyant rough faced / proven chunk! I've had this laying around for years - I've cut many great cabs and slabs from it - today I decided to let someone else decide how to cut the rest of it. Premium, solid, top grade rough. AAA++ 82 x 59 x 45 mm - 380 gram / 13.4 ounces Beautiful Pietersite from China Also known as Eagle's Eye, Pietersite is an exotic variety of tigereye . Discovered in African by Sid Pieters of Namibia. Pietersite is known to have wonderful chatoyancy. A mine in Namibia (Africa) was the only known location producing this rare gemstone before a recent find in China. Surprisingly, a very similar material was found and mined near Nanyang, Henan, China in 1993. It is called " Eagle's Eye " in China, due to the blue chatoyancy. The Chinese Pietersite is just as good as the Namibian material, in my opinion better. Chinese Pietersite has a very distinctive gold color like real gold. Limited production in Namibia and the embargo on export of tigereye rough by South Africa have caused the price of Pietersite to rise dramatically. Also, the new mine in China has been closed due to ground water problems, so the price can only go up. Until now I have only sold very small amounts of this material because it is so hard to get.
