This is a Pilkinton’s Lancastrian glazes Art Deco scarab paperweight. It is 3 ½ inches long and 2 ½ wide. I understand that it is probably an advertising piece for the company from the pre-War period. It is moulded and made of white earthenware and has a matt-blue glaze. There are three glaze flakes, or unglazed spots of unglazed area on the base and it is pited with small bubbles. The capital letters on the base have been impressed into the clay. It is in excellent, undamaged condition. This is quite a collectable article of Pilkington pottery. Due to my knowledge auction value of the item a few years back (from a Millar's Antiques price auction guide) I am starting the bidding for this at £49, which I think is fair, but I do not know what the average market price of these small Pilkington paperweights are at the moment.
