The Playboy "Big Bunny," alias a stretched Douglas DC-9 airliner, made its debut in 1969, and received tremendous publicity. At the time, it was by a wide margin the largest corporate jet in the world, and with its glossy black paint-job and signature white Playboy bunny adorning its tail, it made for an astonishing sight. Word at the time was that Hugh Hefner hated to fly, but with growing business interests worldwide, he decided that if he had to go by air, then he would do so in as comfortable a style as possible. The (then) $5 Million aircraft, which would have normally seated some 115 passengers, was reconfigured into a flying pleasure-palace complete with a huge, elliptical bed for Hef (and friends), a roman-style bath, and just about every other luxury imaginable in 1969. All this cost well over $1 Million (in 1969 dollars). "The Big Bunny" served Hef well for several years, but was eventually sold and reconverted to a standard airliner, but while it was in service, it never failed to turn heads, and it received a tremendous amount of attention wver it went.
