THIS 2 5/8" DIAMETER POCKET OR "BUTTON BANK" WAS DESIGNED BY THE PARISIAN NOVELTY CO. OF CHICAGO FOR ONE OF THE LARGEST BANKS IN THE CITY IN THE EARLY PART OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY. THE UNION TRUST BANK DIDN'T SURVIVE THE BANK RUNS OF THE 1930's; FORTUNATELY, THIS INGENEIOUS POCKET SAVER HAS SURVIVED RELATIVELY UNSCATHED. THE NICKEL PLATED CONTAINER HAS A CELLULOID COVERED TOP AND BOTTOM WITH A PICTURE OF THE UNION TRUST BUILDING ON ONE SIDE AND THEIR EAGLE LOGO WITH THEIR SLOGAN "A BANK OF STRENGTH AND CHARACTER" ON THE REVERSE. THE BANK REMAINS FREE OF DENTS, SCRATCHES, AND CONTINUES TO HAVE APPEAL TO THOSE THAT YEARN FOR THE DAYS WHEN 'TRUST', 'STRENGTH', AND 'CHARACTER' WERE SYNONYMOUS WITH THEIR LOCAL BANKS.
