A Finely done figure of a Hunting Fox, standing over his prey. He has caught what appears to be a Ptarmigan in winter plumage, and is looking alertly back over his shoulder. The sculpture has an artist's mark in ink on the underside. I cannot read it. The mark most closely resembling it, that I could find, was that of Karl Ens Porcelain Factory of Germany, ca. 1898 (see Kovel's p. 183N). The figure does seem to be of excellent quality German or maybe Danish origin. The colors and detailing do resemble some Bing and Grondahl or Royal Copenhagen works. If any of you out there recognize the mark, I would love to hear from you.The figure measures 9" x 5" x 3". There are issues with the ears: they have been repaired, or possibly not finished in the factory. They have made me wonder if this is an artist's prototype, and he (or she) was still in process on the ears. They are shaped beautifully, just not quite finished. You can see the areas of which I speak in the head photos. Other than the ears, it has no problems and is a lovely and lively depiction of a fox and his catch.
