Offered for auction is this Porcelain Hand Painted Plate titled " Morro Castle Havana Cuba ", the Morro castle and light house are shown along with a sail boat, the view is from Havana looking across the bay to the castle. Measuring approx. 10 inches in diameter.On the back is marked 1-1-58, January 1,1958. Morro Castle,Morro means promontory, built in 1589 is a picturesque fortress guarding the entrance to Havana Bay,the light house was added in 1846. In 1958 over 300,000 U.S. tourists visited Cuba spending over $40 million dollars.Gangsters and movie stars were common, Ernest Hemingway was living in Cuba then, in his opinion only Paris and Venice surpassed Havana in beauty, much changed after the revolution in 1959. Overall the condition is excellent. This decorative plate was a fine souvenir 51 years ago and would make a wonderfuladdition to any collection.
