Porceleyne Fles Dutch Royal Delft Blue RVS Plate 1942 Item: This plate will make the perfect addition to your Royal Delft collection. It measures approximately 9" / 22cm. The inscription on the back marks the achievement of an insured value of 500 million guilders. This piece is in excellent condition, with the exception crazing which is typical of these pieces. Style: This piece is painted in the traditional blue delft style with a commemoration to the insurance company RVS, January 1942. Artist: The initial is "F" which represents J. Frolich, Jr. who was employed with the factory from 1932-1979. Date: The date code is "BL" which is 1942. History: Koninklijke De Porceleyne Fles Royal Delft factory began in 1653. David Anthonisz van der Piet received approval to convert a mill into a paint mill for grinding the paint used to decorate Delftware. In 1655, the factory was sold to Wouter van Eenhoor and Quirijn Aldersz van Cleijnhoven and they formed a partnership. In 1697, the factory was sold to Johannes Knotter, who first introduced the fles (bottle or jar) in the signature.
